Black - winged Stilt

Last Sunday I was photographing these river birds near 'Kallanai'(Grand Anicut). Very less water in Kaveri. Lesser sand beds due to heavy illegal sand quarrying. Blooming water hyacinth sets an attractive background to the photographs, but pose a threat to the already diminishing river water.

'Information on  Black - winged Stilt's (Himantopus himantopus) breeding is not much' states Dr. Rathnam  in his book 'Birds of Tamilnadu'.

Sounds like your rivers are as dry as ours...it's a sad state isn't it? You have such a wide variety of birds to photograph. I've enjoyed looking through your blog. The owls especially captured me heart and attention. Since the screech owls have moved out of the box, our backyard isn't nearly as exciting ;)
