Behind the lens

Hello!  Welcome to the Lensing Wild.

I am Thangamani. I am a materials scientist by training and work for a private university near Trichy, Tamilnadu, India.

I mostly photograph wild animals and birds not because I love them above all, but because I strongly believe that they have every right to inherit this planet as I do. I being an animal with ‘sixth sense’ or consciousness, it is my responsibility to find a way to relate with them. However, this is no way that I buy the idea of human beings being superior and all other animate and inanimate forms are blessed for them. Indeed without them we will perish; not the other way. We will be very poor even if one of them is gone forever. This I learnt from my tradition.

‘The compassion to share with and patronize lives is a primary virtue praised by many scriptures’ (Thirukkural  322).

My other interests are Indian philosophy, art, sculptures,
Tamil/Sanskrit classical literature ....
தொகுத்தவற்றுள் எல்லாந் தலை  (குறள் 322)

‘All life on earth is same in origin’ (Thirukkural 972);
பிறப்பொக்கும் எல்லா உயிர்க்கும் (குறள் 972)

My fathers and fore-fathers saw human life as a means to find truth and lived in symbiosis with all that surrounded them.  They were aware of their place in this vast universe; feared neither by life nor by death. They knew the life is a flow that stopped never.  But I think about my son. Will he inherit this wisdom or will be just a consumer who consumes everything mindlessly? Because we at our homes and schools seriously make only consumers.

My photographs of these wild animals and birds are my way of telling you that they need a place to sleep, water to quench their thirst and habitat or sky to be free.

Generally I like wildlife photographs of many photographers. However, I admire Mchio Hoshino for his work and personality. They are my source of inspiration and guidance in wildlife photography. And like Siddhartha, I can think, I can wait… with my camera.
