Grey-bellied Cuckoo
I think it was November 2016, I photographed this Grey-bellied Cuckoo. That was a lifer. The bird was sitting in a thorny bush and having a caterpillar or some other worm in its mouth. Later I learned that this is a resident cuckoo of southern India. Normally, many birds we knew used to migrate to southern part of the sub-continent during winter months. This cuckoo goes for summer visits to Himalayas.
The Grey-bellied Cuckoo is one of the smallest cuckoos at 23 cm. Adults are mainly grey with a white lower belly and undertail. The Grey-bellied Cuckoo takes a variety of insects and caterpillars. It is a brood parasite, and lays its single egg in the nests of warblers.
